Talk to Action's Sarah Posner, as regular readers know, has a new book out about the frauduently inclined preachers of the "posperity gospel." Many of them are also very politically involved and comprise an important part of the religious right.
As foretold in the blogs of old, Scott Lively has come to Springfield, MA and has joined the New Generation Christian Center as pastor and leader of The School of Christian Activism. [Interestingly, his arrival has only been announced on the church's Russian page, not on the English page.] Because Lively and church leader Alexey Ledyaev are virulently anti-gay, one wonders what will be on the syllabus. Anyone interested in enrolling? It is open to the public. Click here to see a video clip of Lively pitching the anti-gay to concerned Latvians. Press release below the fold.
[ note: I'm revising this story because it has come to my attention that the Catholic Knight does not endorse geocentrism. I'll have it back up later today - BW ]
The following is my incomplete transcript of segment #4 of Brigitte Gabriel's June 13, 2007 speaking appearance at the US Joint Forces Staff Command in Norfolk, Virginia. Below is the transcribed segment, #4. The other four segments, in the 5-part series, can be found on YouTube.com by searching on the name "Brigitte Gabriel"
While everyone is distracted by the relative merits of Hiliary and Obama the real issue for preserving all of our cherished American values is right here:
In what CNN characterized as a part of the "conservative backlash starting to build against John McCain," Ann Coulter announced on Fox' Hannity and Colmes that she would support Hillary Clinton over John McCain.
"If you are looking at substance rather than if there is an R or a D after his name, manifestly, if he's our candidate, than Hillary is going to be our girl, because she's more conservative than he is," Coulter said. "I think she would be stronger on the war on terrorism."
This shouldn't be as surprising to Talk to Action readers as it may initially seem.
The intent of a small set of religious fundamentalists in a wealthy town near Boston continues to backfire. Yesterday's loss was at the U.S. Court of Appeals, First Circuit level in Parker et. al. v. Hurley et al.
Starting with their original complaint, two couples asserted personal religious based rights that do not exist in non-theocratic nations. They demanded:
the Lexington School system either notify the parents whenever topics they specify would arise in class or remove their children when such topics arise, regardless of how that happens
the schools permit the parents to attend and monitor classes at will
"...that no teacher or adult expose their child to any materials or discussions featuring sexual orientation, same-sex unions, or homosexuality without notification..."
Today we have received at least one political phone call an hour (using autodialers and recorded messages)- most supporting Huckabee or Romney. One call from Romney mentioned my name (claimed to be from him), even though I am a registered Democrat- and it sounded too slick to be live.
A little later, my wife took a call for Huckabee, that she suspects was made by a church group- they said at the end of the message "God Bless You!"
She tried to get a phone number on that call, but wasn't able to.
If the dominionist churches are pushing for Huckabee or Romney, they need to be found out and dealt with.
I don't know how to report something like this, or if I should- but it causes concern.
The key executives in charge of the three largest voting machine companies in America are ardent supporters of radical reconstructionism and right wing Christian Fundamentalism. Americans cannot trust unreliable voting machines supplied by radical fundamentalists through corrupt lobbyists and partisan insiders.
"Born again" Republicans worry most about Americans' personal indebtedness and abortion, while "non-born again" Republicans are most concerned about debt, HIV/AIDS, poverty, and immigration.
This is just one of the findings in a new report from the conservative Christian pollsters at The Barna Group.
The more that comes out about Mike Huckabee, the more I get scared.
So far, he's admitted he's part of the "Left Behind" fandom crowd, he's gotten endorsements and help from hate groups (like a pastor linked with "Watchmen On The Walls" who also wants to kick all non-dominionists out of the country), released rapist-killers from prison, wants to change the constitution to make the US a de jure theocracy, snd rather explicitly has invoked "God's Army" in his speeches.
As bad as that gets, though, it's worse than I feared. It seems that Mike Huckabee is not only a good friend of neopente cult leader and "Bible-based baby beating" and Joel's Army-with-guns advocate Bill Gothard...but he's also a member of his Bible-based cult.
And folks...that has some very scary implications in regards to that whole "Christian Nation" thing.
