The term "political correctness" as used by Conservatives and Republicans has often puzzled me: what exactly do they mean by it?

I thought about what he explained about the Right's hijacking of this term, and thought we all need to use plainer language in our discussions to get to the heart of what the main issue is with "political correctness". It seems to me what we're really talking about is "respect for others," and "respecting the feelings and dignity of others."  

What I'm feeling now is fear.  I swear that it seems my nightmares are coming true with this new "president".  I'm also frustrated because so many people are not connecting all the dots!

I've been following a bit of what Trump is doing and the news about his 'cabinet'.  It is striking how few people are connecting the dots - they aren't seeing the religious connections behind almost everyone he's picked... and they're all people known to dominionist opponents/researchers.

I've been hearing that and similar sentiments fairly frequently in the last few days - far FAR more often than ever before.  Hearing about "consequences for burning the flag (actions) from Trump is chilling!

Keep your eyes and ears open for a possible move to try to discredit the people openly opposing Trump and the bigots, especially people who have experienced terrorism from the "Right"  (Christian Terrorism is a real thing).  
The Dominionists or their allies may be starting a "The accusations against Trump Supporters are FAKED!" campaign.

My wife told me today of an experience she had this last week, where she was proselytized by a McDonald's employee while in the store.

This comes from the local newspaper, which was conservative before and took a hard right turn after it was sold.


Hint: Sarah Palin's name is on it!  (It's also connected to Trump.)

This is a revision of an article which I posted on my personal board and also on Dailykos. I had an interesting discussion on a discussion board concerning Unions. I tried to piece it together into a cohesive article. I have a couple of observations before getting into it. My current position in relationship with Unions is I am a Union Dock Worker (Teamster). I was laid-off from October 2008 to August 2012. It was during this time I wrote the original article. Laid off workers may sign up for “on call”, so that if the dock needs more workers, they have the flexibility to call in some of the laid-off guys. On-call can range from none to seven days a week. Typically management aims for two days a week or fewer, as three days means full benefits to the on-call worker for that week. Some of the specific issues addressed are somewhat dated as they were in the context of Ohio Senate Bill 5, which took away Union rights of public employees and was defeated in a citizen’s veto, but the arguments themselves did not go away and they will come back again. Plus, of all the states which passed anti-union legislation this year, Ohio was the only one to allow a citizen’s veto and so the arguments apply elsewhere even if not here so much for now. So, without further ado, the question was asked “why should I care if Unions are outlawed? I have never been in a Union and I am doing fine.”

In July of this year, some extremely loud, obnoxious Christian-identified protesters showed up at WitchsFest, an annual Pagan street fair here in NYC.  Here's an account of the protest by Pagan writer Heather Greene on a Pagan news site called The Wild Hunt.  This was the first year that such protesters showed up at Witchfest.  Apparently they also showed up last year at Pagan Pride, another Pagan festival held annually in late September.

I joined this site today, having been linked here by Crooksandliars' Blog Roundup. I thought I'd put up something I put up previously on my Wordpress blog and also at the DailyKos. As will be obvious, this is something I wrote a while back, during the Wisconsin protests which greeted Governor Walker's attacks on unions.

If I may be so humble as to say, I think this article says some significant things. By and large, Image of God has been a neglected subject in Theology at least partly because it is nowhere defined in the Scripture. As I point out, though vaguely defined it is applied ethically. This ethical application should give Christians pause in their willingness to sign up for the whole Conservative agenda.

Jesus is said to have stated that "The Poor will always be with you" and some Christians have used that to refuse to try to help the poor, because "they will always be with you" meaning (in their minds) that it's a lost cause - even though that's not in line with the rest of the Bible.  There are plenty of examples throughout the Bible where poor people are mentioned, usually in denouncements of the rich about their treatment of the poor, and demands that the poor be treated justly with kindness, mercy, and generosity (I've read multiple articles stating that there are literally thousands of lines of this nature - while there are only a small handful of lines thought to be dealing with homosexuality*; this is revealing when you consider the attitudes of those churches referred to as dominionist).  Comparing the modern attitudes found in the more fundamentalist churches towards poverty to the actual scriptures is enlightening.  The reality is that modern attitudes towards poverty are a relatively recent thing and not in line with what the person called Jesus taught or the teachings of the early church.

Dogemperor wrote several times about the alternate economy structure that dominionists have built.  Well, it's actually made the news.  Pretty good article, although it doesn't get into how bad people could be (have been) treated by those so-called "medical doctors".  I'd like to have seen a lot more about that.

Think I've been making things up about experiencing Christian Terrorism or exaggerating, or that it was an isolated incident?  I suggest you read this article (linked below in body), which is about our great Sheriff and his preaching in uniform (which BTW he is insisting that he will continue doing).  It has some interesting points that I hadn't been aware of before now.
