Today we have received at least one political phone call an hour (using autodialers and recorded messages)- most supporting Huckabee or Romney.  One call from Romney mentioned my name (claimed to be from him), even though I am a registered Democrat- and it sounded too slick to be live.

A little later, my wife took a call for Huckabee, that she suspects was made by a church group- they said at the end of the message "God Bless You!"

She tried to get a phone number on that call, but wasn't able to.  

If the dominionist churches are pushing for Huckabee or Romney, they need to be found out and dealt with.

I don't know how to report something like this, or if I should- but it causes concern.

Anyone can block their outgoing (none / 0)
call from displaying its number at the recipient's phone. Just dial star 58 (I think - its been a while since I have done this).

There's no way to detect a Move-On style phone bank, where participants are using their own cell phones. Yes, you get numbers, but private numbers, hard to aggregate into a sponsoring institution (note, Move-On scripts identify caller as being on behalf of Move-On).

Call centers can be rented to be staffed by volunteer callers (and supervised by the computer tech and a volunteer coordinator). These typically block their own number, and those that give their number and name give the name of the call center owner, not the renter.

I didn't know that about phone banks.  We've known from telemarketers that they often block the display of the number, but not that call centers can be rented, or about the Move-On style.

We've probably had at least 50 calls in the last 4 days, including a few over the weekend.  We've had almost one an hour today, and at least a couple an hour Friday.  We've quite sick of them!

Many were for Romney, quite a few were for Huckabee (including the ones we suspect came from churches), and a few were either against Romney or for McCain.

I thought it rather strange that some mentioned my name.  I'm not even a Republican!
