Houston Area Politician Falls into Hard Times
Dan Patrick is an advocate for charter schools and is no friend of public education. He once wanted to slash public school spending by %20. He also sought to get Creationism promoted through public school literature. On his campaign web site Dan promises to fight Obama's attacks on Texas. Texas GOP politician's TV ads seem to focus on one main issue. They boast on how strongly they will defend the state against the current President. Each candidate appears to seek to out distance his opponents on this point. Patrick has fallen into difficult waters because of the harsh things he has said about immigration. He has stated he will if elected "stop the invasion" from Mexico according to the dallasnews. Dan has often reminded his followers that immigrants are bringing Third World diseases with them. He is on the cutting edge of how strongly he will enforce border protection. A problem arose this past week when it was discovered he had in the past hired many illegals to work in his sports bar. The fact that Dan owned a popular sports bar did not seem to bother local family values folks. It reminds me of our own Congressman who makes Dan seem liberal. Our Congressman is a Religious Right pillar in the state and once owned a sex shop in Houston. In Dan's case, the Houston Chronicle reports that he was more than accommodating to illegals, he even tried to sneak them home for visits according to testimonies from former workers. Many of the illegals who worked for Dan are astounded that he has turned on them. Land Commissioner and political challenger Jerry Patterson calls Patrick a hypocrite.
Dan did his God-and-Country thing at a large Houston suburban church in Conroe. Mims Baptist, a fundamentalist Baptist church, invited Dan to speak in the church right after the Montgomery County Sheriff's honor guard preformed the presentation of a memorial flag while the choir sang patriotic songs. According to yourhoustonnews.com Dan preached, "There is no separation of church and state." Patrick went on to quote John Adams saying it was clear Adams did not want the church and state separated.
