The saga continues...
In a nutshell, there was a meeting about Lakeland, Florida's proclivity for government sponsored prayer, and they had to call the police- not because of the atheists who attended, but because of the "Christians". One of the so-called "Christians" even said that the atheists had no right to speak (the same one they called the police about). I might add that he is the one who put up the offensive sign calling atheists fools. The mayor called the meeting short- and only allowed one atheist to speak. He somehow thought he was reading their minds, because he said that their plan was to be "rude, disruptive and disrespectful". Funny- but I don't see that. I see people trying to gain a little respect for their persons, and being denied the same rights and respect that the so-called "Christians" in the area demand for themselves. In fact, his not allowing other atheists to speak was in itself disrespectful, and seems rather an obvious attempt to stifle free speech and public participation in government. When will these people grow a brain? Don't they get it- that THEY are the problem and not the atheists? I guess I shouldn't be surprised, after living in this county for decades- dominionism is so dominant in this area that if you leave your home, you run about a 50-50 chance of being proselytized or subjected to dominionist lies. Since the general atmosphere is so strongly Christian Triumphalist (an attitude that I think Jesus would find offensive), government-sponsored religion should be expected. Education is the key- but how do we get people to understand that separation of church and state protects them as well as those they don't like?
