The Irony of Sarah Palin's "Choice"
In a legal sense, yes, I suppose she did. Under the current laws of the United States she had the option of having an abortion and chose not to take it. But Palin, we are assured, believes abortion is evil, murder, a terrible, mortal sin -- even in the face of rape, incest and imminent death. If that is what she truly believes, then she had no option but to continue the pregnancy to term. To do otherwise would have been unconscionable. There was no praiseworthy choice involved. As usual, the religious fundamentalists are willfully blind to the illogic of their own position. They are heaping praise on Palin for "choosing" not to have an abortion, even though, if they had spoken to her beforehand, they would have told her in no uncertain terms that if she was true to her faith, she had no choice at all. It's kind of like praising James Dobson for not having a homosexual relationship. Should we be making a big deal out of that too?
