<The self-righteous segment of the population that see's fit to demonize all things liberal needs to re-examine their claims. They probably won't, but they have no leg to stand on. Assuming that they believe that the Bible is the inerrent word of God, and that it is the book that informs their lives, then they need to look at what the Bible say's about liberals. There's no way to spin this. It is what it is. The Religious Right, and all those that have insisted that Liberals are the spawn of Satan have avoided this like the plague. Either they knew about this passage and deliberately avoided it, making them the very worst of hypocrits. Or they were waving the Book in peoples faces without ever having seen it, and were simply ignorant fools in the eyes of the very God they professed their belief in. They invested their entire being in the word of God. And the word of God condemns them for their hypocracy.>
<Isaiah 32  5-8>

<"The vile person shall be no more called liberal, nor the churl said [to be] bountiful.>

<For the vile person will speak villany, and his heart will work iniquity, to practise hypocrisy, and to utter error against the LORD, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.>

<The instruments also of the churl [are] evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaketh right.>

<But the liberal deviseth liberal things; and by liberal things shall he stand.">

<Isaiah 32 5-8
King James Version>

<More "modern" version's of the Bible have changed the wording. These are the newer versions that simply couldn't cope with the original. So..they alter the "word" in order to fit their political orientation. However the one version that is the standard by which all others are judged is the King James Version. This is Gods view according to Isaiah as it appears in the KJV. There's a striking difference, in fact a total contradiction in the way that God views the Liberal, and the way that conservatives view the Liberal. Who's right? God or the Conservative?
The demonization of Liberals by right wing fanatics who claim moral superiority by throwing the Bible in everyones face, contradicts the word of God.>

<What I find totally hypocritical by those that wave the Bible in peoples face and have the audacity to demand everybody pay attention to their beliefs, is that they have this habit of attacking Liberals as the source of all their problems. They rarely if ever meet the standards they set for everyone else and then claim that those that point that out are Christian Bashers. Well, I'm sorry but all religions are an idea. A philosophy based on beliefs. It's not a race. So those ideas are open to criticism just as any idea would be. More so, if those promoting those ideas are attempting to legislate on behalf of those ideas. Liberals are the conservatives scapegoat. In that regard, Liberals must of course be evil, and evil of course is equated with Satan himself, hence the demonization of all things Liberal, even after evidence of what they condemn is actually a desirable attribute according to God through the prophet Isaiah as found in the very book that conservatives claim to use as a guide to their lives.  A Liberal mind is open to infinate possibilities. A conservative mind is not. It's wrapped in a closed system. It assumes it's position is correct without the possibility of error. A Liberal knows that he could be wrong. He accepts the possibility of error.>

<The words of Isaiah, in any context would resonate as well. It goes on to say "And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever". Isaiah 32: 17 That's also a universal statement. It doesn't require context. it's also another Liberal concept. Burn the village in order to save it is a conservative concept, and yet the Liberal is the spawn of Satan, and the source of evil. They love terrorists and  jihadists, they hate America. You've certainly seen what I'm talking about. Pointing out the fallacy of Chistian conservative judgement only brings about more hatred for those that point to it.>

<Politically, Liberalism began with the Enlightenment. It's the philosophy that this country was founded on. And the fundimental core values are those found to be the opposite of those condemned in Isaiah, and called Liberal in Gods own words. We can easily see the meaning at the heart of Isaiah 32 and exactly what he  meant when he condemned  the very opposite of the Liberal. There is no escaping the fact of the demonization of Liberals by conservatives. It's everywhere.>

<A Liberal philosophy founded this very country. It came from Locke, and Voltair, and Hobbes, and Jefferson, and Madison. We must hold on to our history, and never surrender to any alter, especially an alter of lies.>

Display:
The Bible-pounding, hate spewing jackleg preachers who come on campus to try to insult students into "The Kingdom of God" (and driving most of them away from any form of Christianity) CONSTANTLY refer to the King James Bible as the "Inerrant word of God!"  At the same time they blame liberals for everything.

Next time there is a hate-monger on campus, I might ask him/her to read those verses out loud.

Or repeat them to them and ask them: God said that Liberals were good, why are you calling God a liar?

It would be good if somebody would confront these people with the book they wave in everyones face. Isaiah 32 kind of say's it all doesn't it?

What I'd really like to see is somebody confront these people on TV when they begin to demonize Liberals and use the Bible to justify their position. Maybe in a debate in front of millions of viewers.

Whilst I agree substantially with your article, I can't agree with your statement that: "Well, I'm sorry but all religions are an idea. A philosophy based on beliefs".

Being an evangelical christian myself (but not a political conservative) such a statement gets me angry.

It's the sort of statement that those on the right would target as both biased and offensive.

Besides, my relationship with Christ is neither a religion nor a philosophy. Your argument indicates a certain ignorance, as well as claiming that I cannot know something I do know.

Concentrate on the hypocrisy, the lies, the misuse of the truth, the heresy (which much of what they say is), but don't write people's beliefs off simply because you personally don't believe in the same things.

Secondly, it's amazing to me that conservative Americans denounce Liberals with such venom, as without those Liberals your country as such would not exist. You have 2 of the most Liberal documents - your Constitution and your Bill of Rights - as the foundation of a democracy  - another liberal ideal - and yet Liberals are regarded as evil!

A christian who claims that 9/11 was God's judgement on America because of homosexuality neither knows God nor His word. God is not capricious nor vengeful.

I do wish some evangelical christians over there would get up and point out the falsehoods being hawked as truth.

"Being an evangelical christian myself (but not a political conservative) such a statement gets me angry." Why? What I said was: "Well, I'm sorry but all religions are an idea. A philosophy based on beliefs". What part of that isn't true? Religion is man made. I mean no disrespect in that. "Being an evangelical christian myself (but not a political conservative) such a statement gets me angry." I don't know why. Religion is an invention of man. People adhere to all kinds of philosophy's. Religion's are more dogmatic in their approach. Imagine how angry I get when as a liberal I'm labeled as something evil. "It's the sort of statement that those on the right would target as both biased and offensive." I don't see any bias involved here. The commentary was directed at those that claim that Liberals are somehow evil, and how it isn't supported by the facts found in the Bible. The very book that is used to supposedly lend credence to their claims. As for offensive, once again, I find that branding liberals as evil a bit over the top. That certainly is not how they're portrayed in Isaiah 32:5-8 "Besides, my relationship with Christ is neither a religion nor a philosophy." Then what is it? Your only knowledge of Christ is through the Bible. At some time in your life you were exposed to the teachings of Christ. You accepted those teachings as valid did you not? You adopted those teachings as a philosophy and accepted that philosophy as your religion. There's nothing wrong with that. I'm not attempting to minimize it. It is what it is, and I think that it's totally valid. My argument is with people that use the Bible and the teachings of Christ to marginalize Liberals as evil. "but don't write people's beliefs off simply because you personally don't believe in the same things." That really isn't what I'm doing at all. Frankly I don't care what people believe. That's their business. I begin to care when they attempt to use that belief to destroy others, and then to attempt to legislate those beliefs on everyone. "Secondly, it's amazing to me that conservative Americans denounce Liberals with such venom, as without those Liberals your country as such would not exist." This of course is true. Liberalism is the foundation of this country. "You have 2 of the most Liberal documents - your Constitution and your Bill of Rights - as the foundation of a democracy - another liberal ideal - and yet Liberals are regarded as evil!" Amazing isn't it. Conservative ideology required something to demonize in order to gain traction. It co-opted Christianity in order to appeal to people through a self-righteous attitude that allowed for them marginalize Liberals as being anti-christian. It's the idea that if you aren't with us, then you're against us. And since we are the "real" Christians, you must be anti-christian. It's a simplisitc and illogical assumption. "I do wish some evangelical christians over there would get up and point out the falsehoods being hawked as truth." So do I. My wife is a christian, and thinks that I paint with too broad a brush, but I keep pointing out that Christian people should take umbrage to how their beleifs have been perverted by a very vocal few. I see the same thing happening within Islam. Being a Muslim over here is no different then being a terrorist.
