In case anyone thinks the Texas Republican Party Platform doesn't represent the Republican Party, think again.
Greenwatch Today reports:

GOP congressional leaders may bring to a vote within weeks a proposal that could literally wipe out any federal program that protects public health or the environment--or for that matter civil rights, poverty programs, auto safety, education, affordable housing, Head Start, workplace safety or any other activity targeted by anti-regulatory forces.

The gimmic for this major attack on governmental regulations is a "sunset commission."

With strong support from the Bush White House and the Republican Study Committee, the proposal would create a "sunset commission"--an unelected body with the power to recommend whether a program lives or dies, and then move its recommendations through Congress on a fast-track basis with limited debate and no amendments.

How does this relate to the Texas GOP Platform?

We support the abolition of ... the Bureau of Tobacco and Firearms, the position of Surgeon General, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Departments of Energy, Housing and Urban Development, Health and Human Services, Education, Commerce and Labor. We also call for the de-funding or abolition of the National Endowment for the Arts, and Public Broadcasting System.

Herein lies the essence of dominionism.

The squat, bunker-like building in a south Topeka suburb does not look like a place to turn American politics on its head. Nor does Mark Parkinson, a tall, affable man, look too much like a revolutionary. But here, deep in the American heartland, are the warning signs of a political earthquake.

The two-storey office block is Parkinson's campaign headquarters as he runs as Democrat candidate for deputy governor. So far, so normal. Except that only a few weeks ago Parkinson was a Republican. In fact, he was Kansas Republican party chairman.

His defection to the Democrats sent shockwaves through a state deeply associated with the national Republican cause and the evangelical conservatives at its base. Nor was it just Parkinson's leave-taking that left Republicans spluttering with rage and talking of betrayal. It was that as he left Parkinson lambasted his former party's obsession with conservative and religious issues such as gay marriage, evolution and abortion.

"They were fixated on ideological issues that really don't matter to people's everyday lives. What matters is improving schools and creating jobs.I got tired of the theological debate over whether Charles Darwin was right."

From the description, I'll bet student loans, Pell Grants, and things like that which make it possible for poor people to go to school willl be eliminated- along with funding for the social sciences and anything that doesn't turn a profit for business owners.

I can also see business funding of schools (so they can set the agenda and turn out "highly trained" slaves, elimination of the social sciences, and so on.

They may think that having the churches take over health and human services is a good idea. My experiences state otherwise: the only thing the churches will tell someone with bad health problems that aren't obvious is "GET A JOB!!!"

This move makes me fear for my life.
