"The federal estate tax had its origins in war." So begins Paul Krugman in his op-ed piece for Friday's New York Times.  Krugman quotes Tom DeLay on war and taxes:
"Nothing is more important in the face of a war than cutting taxes," declared Tom DeLay, the former House majority leader, in 2003.

An effort to completely  repeal  the estate tax narrowly failed in the U.S. Senate last week. Krugman writes:
"Theodore Roosevelt ... called for an inheritance tax in 1906: "The man of great wealth," said T.R., "owes a peculiar obligation to the state."
The inheritance and other taxes need to be understood as a dominionist issue.
America's Providential History, a textbook popular in Christian schools and the Christian homeschool movement teaches history from "a biblical worldview."  And inheritance taxes are "nowhere in the Bible." In addition, income tax is "idolatry," and property tax is "theft... "specifically forbidden in Scripture." (p.214)

DeLay speaks at Worldview Weekend (none / 0)
"Only Christianity offers a way to live in response to the realities that we find in this world. Only Christianity." So Tom DeLay declared at a Worldview Weekend in April, 2002. Church and State reported on the former House Majority Leader's speech:

Speaking at a "Worldview Weekend" conference at the First Baptist Church in Pearland, Texas, DeLay told a crowd of about 300 that God had brought him to the U.S. Congress. As for his accomplishments, "The Lord deserves the credit, not me," DeLay said.

DeLay told the gathering about his close relationship with God:

He [God] has been walking me through an incredible journey, and it all comes down to worldview," DeLay told the crowd. "He is using me, all the time, everywhere, to stand up for biblical worldview in everything that I do and everywhere I am. He is training me, He is working with me.

Did DeLay mean that God lives on K Street?
