Roberts "No Civil Liberties If You're Dead"
Twice, now, I have heard Senator Roberts of Kansas use the phrase, "You have no civil liberties if you're dead." The most recent time was in his statement at Hayden's confirmation hearing. I would really like to see somebody who can draw create a cartoon where Roberts is addressing George Washington's continental army, telling the troops to go home -- that liberty is not worth fighting for -- because "You have no civil liberties if you're dead." And I would like to see that cartoon spread from one end of Kansas to the other. Seriously, Roberts represents the intellectual descendents of those who would have immediately thrown up a white flag as soon as the British came into view, because it is better to stay alive than to stay free. Roberts not only denigrates the sacrifice of those who fought to create this country, but of every person who wore a uniform since then, who thought (apparently incorrectly, according to Roberts) that freedom was worth a few risks.
