Seriously, Roberts represents the intellectual descendents of those who would have immediately thrown up a white flag as soon as the British came into view, because it is better to stay alive than to stay free.

Roberts not only denigrates the sacrifice of those who fought to create this country, but of every person who wore a uniform since then, who thought (apparently incorrectly, according to Roberts) that freedom was worth a few risks.
