Georgia Abandons Constitution
The signing of both bills, which comes despite the12,000 emails DefCon members sent Sonny calling on him to do the right thing, is an appalling affront on the Constitution. It violates the personal and religious freedom of Georgian's, and sets a precedent that the religious right will no doubt look to replicate in other states. This move is also only the most recent evidence of the incredible influence the religious right wields in Georgia; from the candidacy of Ralph Reed to the insertion of anti-evolution stickers in Cobb County's textbooks. Amazingly, the religious right has argued for both bills on the grounds of religious freedom. Which simply shows the one sided nature of their arguments -- freedom only for their religion, disregarding the implication it has on the freedom of others. Crossposted from DefConBlog.org
