Here's a link to a frontpage story in today's Norman Transcript about "Fighting for the Rights."

The story is about a group that is working to put large bronze plaques of the Bill of Rights in a prominent place in area high schools.
I think this would be a worthwhile project for any community.

What this battle is really about is that we on the Left are loyal to the principles of Social Contract democracy, which wants to avoid the pain of all the religious civil wars that griped Europe throughout the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries as well as the anti-Semitism that peaked under Hitler. The religious right, which ignores this important history, simply wants a Platonic democracy, replete with state religion.
