Kansas Right-wing Pastor joins with Amusment Park

Terry Fox, a Wichita icon for the rabid right, announced in today's edition of the Wichita Eagle that he has an anonymous donor in the wings ready to pony up one million in matching funds for a church to built on the property of a new amusement park being built north of Wichita--Wild West World.  He believes that this will give his new church access to the unsuspecting visitors to the amusement park--and I believe he is correct in this assessment.  His flock of over a purported 900 people already meets at the Johnny Western Theater on the park's grounds.  Jesusland seems to be being constructed here in the heartland--what would Jesus ride?  The roller coaster or the merry-go-round?  I will check the scriptures.....more to come.

But I'm sure the reality will be appalling.

I wonder about the possible depiction of American Indians too.

They'll probably have the teepees- feather headdresses- etc.

People forget that there were MORE of us in the east, and we neither dressed like, looked like, or LIVED like those from the west.

But then, their whole worldview is based upon ignorance and bad theology.

I am also disgusted at their using a theme park to draw people to their church.  It sounds like the typical fundamentalist "bait and switch" tactics- misrepresenting the truth and trying to trick people in so they can clobber them over the head with guilt and fear.

You've got that right. How tacky can you get?

Still, however our ancestors are represented, it will have to be a  step up from the "demon-worshipping, Negro slave-holding, frequently land-polluting" image portrayed by Gary North -- http://www.serve.com/thibodep/cr/indian.htm

North seems to think that Indians were heathens and "savages" who didn't farm or live in settled communities, and so the whites were of course justified in stealing their lands.

I guess he never heard of New Echota.

The way in which my community is embracing this event, I don't know if I should laugh or cry.  This man and his questionable ministry should be watched very closely as I know he will continue to preach a philosophy of hate and bigotry and discord.

Jesus keeps getting smaller and smaller...Pretty soon, McChurch, the drive-through, fast-food temple of the Christian Right will no longer have to incur His return; they can put Him in a shoebox and take Him to Israel in time for the opening of the Temple Mount...

I am reminded of a T-shirt I saw recently:  "Jesus is my Homeboy."
