No Danger for Rifqa Bary
Despite allegations of abuse and so-called death threats, it turns out that Rifqa Bary was in no danger whatsoever. "No credible reports of threats"- you can read that to mean "those who said there were real threats were LIARS". Why am I not surprised? It's all part of the same "they aren't Christians like us, so they are the ENEMY!" BS!!! The same old "gotta start a war with Islam" stuff that has been going on for years now. Rifqa is not the only story about warmongering and anti-Muslim persecution in Florida. A short time ago, it was reported in the local paper that a JROTC member from Springstead High School in Hernando County, Florida accused a Muslim girl of not standing for the pledge of allegiance. She claimed that she'd walked by the classroom and noticed that the girl hadn't stood, and attacked the girl later in the day. The Muslim girl was wearing a traditional head scarf or hijab and Heather Lawrence, the JROTC member accosted her and told her "Take that thing off your head and act like you're proud to be an American." It turned out that the Muslim girl HAD stood and said the Pledge of Allegiance. Her accuser had never left her own homeroom, much less have been able to see whether or not the Muslim girl stood and the Muslim girl's teacher said that she had participated. Heather, the "Good American Girl"- or maybe "Good American BIGOT" also expressed racist hostility regarding the Muslim girl as reported by a teacher who talked with her: "She began to rant that she was enlisting and was going to Iraq and that basically because the girl looks Middle Eastern, that makes her an enemy because all Iraqis are Middle Eastern," according to the referral signed by assistant principal Stephen Crognale. When this hit the local news, the school staff and faculty came under attack because they punished Heather for bullying and harassment. Heather's dad stands by his daughter and her claims. Considering just how prevalent Dominionism and bigoted racism is in Florida, I'm not at all surprised. http://www.theledger.com/article/20090901/NEWS/909019993 The sad thing is that so many people are so set on making anyone who doesn't believe like they do the enemy- even other Christians (such as myself). They seem to think that Jesus sponsors hate speech and persecution against anyone who doesn't believe like they do. Well, they're wrong. What is even more offensive is when good Christians (the REAL ones) speak out against their bigotry, they say of us that WE are being hateful. Inversion, perversion, lies... the fruit of Dominionism.
